‘THE GIANT CLAW’ and ‘LAND OF GIANTS’ are two half-hour long ‘WALKING WITH DINOSAURS’ specials shown on BBC ONE over Christmas 2002. Produced by Impossible Pictures Productions for the BBC, the programmes follow on from and develop the revolutionary programme making techniques that made ‘WALKING WITH DINOSAURS’ and ‘WALKING WITH BEASTS’ into worldwide hits.

For the first time in the ‘WALKING WITH…’ series the spectacular special effects on display include the integration of a human being into the prehistoric landscape. Zoologist Nigel Marvin, who hosts both shows, travels back in time to ancient earth in search of a variety of dinosaurs. Like any good wildlife presenter, Marvin doesn’t mind getting his hands dirty, and both he and his camera crew find that some of the encounters with the dinosaurs can get a little too close for comfort.

‘THE GIANT CLAW’ and ‘LAND OF GIANTS’ were shot in Australia and the Canary Islands - locations that provide landscapes with the necessary ‘otherworldly’ quality. Framestore CFC, Impossible Pictures and the BBC have reunited the talents that made the ‘WALKING WITH’ series. Building on the experience and knowledge gained in earlier programmes, ‘CLAW’ and ‘GIANTS’ extend the technological boundaries by introducing a live actor to observe and react with the computer-generated beasts.
